The Molise Croats are visiting Croatia as part of the "Molise
Croats Week" which is taking place from 16 to 21 June under the
patronage of the Croatian President Franjo Tudjman in Zagreb.
As Croats in Molise were not a recognized ethnic minority, and
the Croatian language had not been introduced in schools, there was
a danger that every trace of Croatian-ness disappeared, they told
the press conference.
A member of the government of Molise, Giovanni Giorgetto, had
personally advocated that a law on the protection of language
minorities take effect in Autumn, in order to stop the Croatian
language from being extinguished, Agostine Piccoli said.
One such action would be the opening of a Croatian language
and culture centre.
