ZAGREB, 13 June (Hina) - The President of the Croatian Social-

on the cessation of further talks with the Croatian Democratic
Union (HDZ). #L#
"Negotiations with the HDZ did not even start, we just held
talks to see whether negotiations are possible", Gotovac said.
Asked why the HSLS did not conclude the talks and whether the
HDZ would fulfill the conditions set by the HSLS, Gotovac said that
the public had been against the negotiations with HDZ and his talks
with President Tudjman from the first moment.
Asked whether there was a chance that the talks continue,
Gotovac said that it depended on the HSLS Great Council.
All the time during the talks, the HSLS leadership had been
under great pressure of the public. "I was not forced to enter the
talks, and if it's a sin to negotiate, then we are finished and we
are in a psychological civil war' Gotovac said, adding that the
talks with the HDZ did not threaten relations between the HSLS and
the Opposition Alliance.
