A BRIEF LOOK AT CROATIAN PRESS ON TUESDAY

ZAGREB, June 11 (Hina) - The Zagreb-based daily VJESNIK runs a front-page article in its Tuesday edition on relations between the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party and the leading opposition Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS). The article, published under the headline "HDZ Awaiting Reply from HSLS Council", says that the HDZ has informed the HSLS about its platform as a starting point for talks between the two parties. The Vjesnik editor in chief comments on the HDZ-HSLS talks in an article headlined "Negotiations Reach Crisis?" An article headlined "Elections in Moslem-Controlled Bosnia- Herzegovina: Five Parties Looking for Voters" says that the ruling Moslem-led Democratic Action Party (SDA) is trying to use "the military-government-media machine" to ensure its victory, and that five opposition parties are forming a coalition. "Labour Act Did Not Result in Mass-Scale Layoffs" is the headline of an article which says that union leaders have favourably assessed the new Labour Act. Vjesnik includes an article on a statement by the former UN special envoy to former Yugoslavia, Yasushi Akashi, made in an interview with the German news agency DPA, that there is a "secret UN report" accusing the Bosnian Moslems of a massacre at Sarajevo's Markale market on 5 February 1995. The article is headlined "Sarajevo Silent on Akashi's Accusations." Another Zagreb-based daily VECERNJI LIST runs an article on the forthcoming privatization of Croatian Post and Telecommunications (HPT). The article says that the government proposes the separation of postal service and telecommunications. Vecernji List includes an article on novelties in the Mass Media Bill.
