nominated Fulvio Paolini as its special envoy to Croatia, a

"Following the achievements of the Dayton peace agreement, as
well as ongoing successful implementation of the process of
peaceful reintegration in eastern Slavonia, Baranja and western
Srijem, so far, and bearing in mind Croatia's orientation toward
Europe, this nomination is a significant step forward in improving
the relations between the European Union and the Republic of
Croatia," the statement said.
The nomination would facilitate the coordination of the EU
activities in the programmes of reconstruction in Croatia,
especially in the Croatian Danubian area.
Paolini is to on Thursday deliver a letter of credentials to
Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic.
The president of the European Commission Jacques Santer and
the Italian Foreign Minister Lamberto Dini are to arrive in Zagreb
on Friday for an official visit, the statement said.
