ZAGREB, June 5 (Hina) - The Croatian fraternity "Boka Kotorska
Navy 809" issued a statement on Wednesday expressing indignation
at the violent death of Msgr Ivo Gugic, retired bishop of Kotor,
Montenegro.
During his thirteen-year service as bishop, Gugic cared for
the religious and minority rights of the Croatian Catholic
community in Boka Kotorska, "collecting sacral and other items of
artistic value and preserving the heritage of the historically
Croatian area," the statement said.
The fraternity said it was pleased that the killer had been
immediately apprehended and expressed hope that "the local
authorities would pay more attention to the protection of life
and heritage of the Catholic shepherds caring for the remaining
autochthonous Croatian population."
