INTO COUNCIL OF EUROPE ON WEDNESDAY
SOLUN, May 28 (Hina) - The Permanent Committee of the Council of
Europe Parliamentary Assembly is on Wednesday to consider the
status of the Croatia's application to be admitted as full member
into the Council of Europe. #L#
Some eighty members of the Permanent Committee which work on
behalf of the Parliamentary Assembly in between sessions, are to
take a vote on the resolution draft of Croatia's application.
In the draft resolution the parliamentarians remarked that
Croatian authorities had from April 24, when the Parliamentary
Assembly gave the "green light" to Croatia's accession into the
Council of Europe, acted discordantly to liabilities they had taken
on.
They cited repressive measures against the media, the
dissolution of the Zagreb city council and of not implementing the
adopted act on cooperating with the International Crimes Tribunal
for Former Yugoslavia.
The draft resolution cited the decision of the Croatian
Constitutional Court on overruling the government decision on
dissolving the Zagreb city council as a positive sign of
functioning of a legal state.
The Permanent Committee also asked the Croatian authorities to
strictly respect their obligations and expectations to enable a
speedy accession of Croatia into the Council of Europe.
