ZAGREB, May 15 (Hina) - The Council of Europe's Committee of
Ministers on Wednesday formally considered the admission of
Croatia to full membership of the Council of Europe.
The following is the full text of a statement issued from
the session, which was read to Hina over the telephone by the
head of the Information Office, Jack Henning:
"The thirty-nine nation Council of Europe's ministers'
deputies today instructed the Group on relations of the countries
of Central and Eastern Europe to resume consideration at its next
meeting on 30 May 1996 of the question of Croatia's accession as
soon as possible to the Council of Europe on the basis of a
document by the Secretariat setting out commitments and
expectations the fulfilment of which could be required of Croatia
according to a timetable to be fixed.
"The deputies also agreed to resume consideration of this
item at their next meeting from 3 to 6 June 1996."
