The focus of both meetings was the political and economic
situation in Rijeka. The hosts thanked their Italian guests for
Italy's help during the war in Croatia.
They stressed that the safety situation in Croatia was at the
highest level and called on Olivieri to promote Croatian tourism in
his country.
The talks especially tackled the Italian community in Rijeka
and the work of its schools, publishers, drama theatres and other
cultural institutions.
Olivieri stressed that even now that peace had been
established in Croatia, Italy would continue to offer assistance to
Croatia, and expressed support for the strengthening of economic,
cultural and overall relations between the two countries.
He also expressed his expectation that seats for the
representatives of the Italian minority in Rijeka would be ensured
when the Rijeka City Council convened in the future.
