Olivieri described the meeting as "very encouraging" for his
mission in Croatia, adding that the talks had discussed
"possibilities of future cooperation between the two countries" and
had established "a certain number of sectors where the cooperation
may be established right away."
"Italy is a very important partner in the fields of politics
and economy," Matesa said, stressing that the fact that the
European Union was under the chairmanship of Italy was of great
importance for Croatia.
The talks also tackled the issue of relations with ethnic
minorities.
"Mutual protection of minorities and their rights is crucial
for further development of relations between Croatia and Italy,"
Matesa said.
Stressing that Italy was Croatia's biggest partner in trade,
Matesa said that both countries have to work towards further
development of economic relations and the establishment of a legal
infrastructure which supplemented economic relations.
