In the period between February and end March this year, cases
of swine plague have been registered in Sisak, Bjelovar and Zagreb
Counties, but thanks to speedy action, the disease was contained,
Brstilo said.
The situation of all diseases, especially the ones from the A
List of the International Code on the health of animals (most
dangerous diseases) is being followed constantly. The situation of
infectious diseases in Europe in last several years has been bad
and this also refers to swine plague, Brstilo said, adding that
except for occasional cases of swine plague Croatia has not had
problems with A-List diseases. This, he said, could not be said for
a large number of European countries, where the occurrence of
dangerous diseases like foot-and-mouth disease, 'mad cow's disease'
and similar diseases, is being registered constantly.
There are no cases of 'mad cow's disease' in Croatia, Brstilo
said, adding that the situation is being followed continually.
'Croatia has been following this disease for the last eight to ten
years and we have done everything to prevent its occurrence',
Brstilo concluded.
