Tomo Povreslo, representative of the Association of Displaced
Persons, told the Croatian news agency Hina that the delegation was
allowed to move freely and talk with local residents in the two
villages.
'There is no doubt that the local population in the still
occupied Croatian Danubian area is conscious of the fact that
Croatian authority will soon be re-established and in Croatia's
internationally recognized borders too', Povreslo said. 'Baranja is
not destroyed and it is ready to accept returnees'.
Catholic churches in Bilje and Baranjsko Petrovo Selo were not
damaged from the outside, but they are plundered, Povreslo added.
'The United Nations High Commission for Refugees and the
United Nations Transitional Administration in Eastern Slavonia will
organize visits to the villages of Marinci, Ceric, Nijemci, Lipovac
and Tovarnik', Povreslo said, adding that the sub-committee, which
includes both Croat and Serb representatives, has last Friday
visited eight villages in eastern Slavonia where Croatian Serb
refugees should return.
