WASHINGTON, 23 April (Hina) - The Croatian National Bank (NBH)
Governor, Marko Skreb and his deputy Zdravko Rogic took part in
yesterday's spring session of International Monetary Fund (IMF) in
Washington. #L#
The Croatian representatives met with their colleagues from
the Slovenian and German national banks as well as with
representatives of the Bank for International Settlement (BIS).
Croatia is not a member of BIS nor is any other former Yugoslav
republic.
Requirements for Croatia's admission to BIS and the
distribution of gold reserve between successor states to the former
Yugoslavia should be discussed with BIS representatives. Namely,
the Bank has blocked all gold holdings of the former Yugoslavia
after its disintegration. How successful the Bank is in doing its
job can be seen in the fact that in 1917 it blocked the gold
reserve of Baltic countries and never gave it to Russia. This is
the reason why, for example, Estonia can be proud of its stable
currency today.
The Croatian delegation will meet IMF representatives,
including IMF Director Michael Camdessus and discuss with them the
final steps concerning a three-year agreement between IMF and
Croatia.
