Young teams whose former generations had won the most valuable
football championship titles, gathered at the stadium before 12,000
spectators.
The derby had been announced for days as an event which
signified more than just a game, so its start was unusual as well.
The president of the presidency of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Alija
Izetbegovic, made the first shot, and was cheered by both
"Sarajevo" and "Zeljeznicar" fans.
The game ended in a draw.
The Grbavica stadium had been badly damaged in the war because
it was used by Serbs as sniper shelter.
The central wooden stand had been completely burnt and other
stands made of concrete had been damaged by shell fragments.
The environment of the stadium is still marked with yellow
lines, warning that the area is dangerous because of hidden mines.
