IFOR COMMANDER MEETS E.U. ADMINISTRATOR IN MOSTAR

MOSTAR, April 27 (Hina) - The commander of the NATO-led peace Implementation Force (IFOR) in Bosnia, Admiral Leighton Smith, visited the southwestern town of Mostar on Saturday where he met the European Union administrator of Mostar, Ricardo Perez Casado, for talks on the process of normalizing the situation in the town. Smith told a press conference after the meeting that IFOR would help civilian organizations in Mostar. Smith stressed that he was not at all satisfied with freedom of movement in Bosnia. All parties were restricting freedom of movement of civilians belonging to the other side, he said. He added that IFOR had improved mobility throughout the country and opened a lot of roads and repaired a number of bridges that had been destroyed during the war. He said that IFOR had still a lot to do in helping create an atmosphere in which people would be able to travel around freely. In response to a journalist's question on whether all commitments had been met by the April 18 deadline, Smith said that all the three parties had not been able to comply with the deadline. As long as we see that there is a will, we will work with all parties to enable full compliance - the sooner the better, he said. (hina) vm 271747 MET apr 96
