GENEVA, April 25 (Hina) - Croatia has declared a moratorium on
the production, import, export, storage and use of anti-personnel
mines, booby traps and mines activated by remote control.
A declaration on the moratorium, signed on April 19 by
Foreign Minister Mate Granic and Defence Minister Gojko Susak,
was published on Thursday at a conference on conventional arms
ban which was being held in Geneva from April 22 to May 3.
The declaration was included as an official document of the
conference which brings together 49 signatory states of the
convention on conventional weapons ban.
Croatia declared the moratorium to strengthen its peace role
and international position, to implement peace initiatives and to
contribute to world-wide efforts aimed at disarmament and
building lasting peace and confidence among nations.
