ZAGREB, April 24 (Hina) - Commenting on Croatia's admission to the
Council of Europe on Wednesday, Prime Minister Zlatko Matesa said
that it was "the recognition of Croatia as one of the oldest
European countries and of its state-building policy."
"The admission of Croatia to the Council of Europe is an
honour and a commitment," Matesa told Croatian radio.
Foreign Minister Mate Granic described the event as a great
Croatian success. "We believe that the Committee of Ministers will
confirm the decision by the Parliamentary Assembly," he said.
"It's clear that Croatia's admission to the Council of Europe
will improve talks on its joining the PHARE programme and on
cooperation with the European Union," Economy Minister Davor Stern
said.
