By a U.N. resolution, Zepa and Srebrenica became protected
zones, but the Bosnian Serb army last year attacked and seized the
two towns. Zepa and Srebrenica were Muslim enclaves, completely
ethnically cleansed after their fall through expulsion and mass
killings.
The nine released Muslims belong to a group of 13 Muslims who
crossed over to the territory of the 'Federal Republic of
Yugoslavia' and were imprisoned by the Serbian authorities. Their
imprisonment was later called a 'misunderstanding'.
By releasing the nine prisoner, the 'Federal Republic of
Yugoslavia' has partially fulfilled its promise given to the
representative of the U.N. High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR),
Soren Jansen Petersen, to release all prisoners by the end of this
week.
The nine Muslims would be transported by plane to Zagreb and
then to Sarajevo.
