ZAGREB, April 11 (Hina) - A two-day international symposium, called
"Croatia as a Factor of Stability and Peace in Europe", began in
Zagreb on Thursday. #L#
The symposium, bringing together foreign and domestic
scientists, military and political experts and diplomats, was
opened by the director of the Croatian Centre for Strategic
Research, Marin Sopta.
Sopta pointed out that without peace and stability in Croatia,
there could be no peace and stability in Europe.
The key to a new order and security in Europe was democracy, a
multi-party system and the protection of human and national rights,
said Miroslav Tudjman, a Faculty of Philosophy professor.
Otto von Habsburg, member of the European Parliament and
president of the International Paneuropean Union, said that in
order to strengthen security in Europe, the European Union should
be enlarged and its structures reorganized and a unified European
security system should be set up on the basis of a professional
army.
