CAUSE OF U.S. PLANE CRASH NEAR DUBROVNIK STILL UNKNOWN

DUBROVNIK, April 5 (Hina) - Stanko Misetic, air traffic inspector of the Croatian Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Communications, told a press conference in Dubrovnik on Friday that all the details of Wednesday's US Air Force plane crash were not yet known and that the investigation was continuing. Misetic said that it was still not clear why the plane changed course, adding that it was the first accident to have taken place in the vicinity of Dubrovnik airport. He stressed that the airport met all international civilian aviation standards. Pathologist Simun Andjelinovic said that two Croatian citizens, press photographer Niksa Antonini and interpreter Dragica Lendic-Bebek, had been indentified among 35 passengers who had been killed in the crash. Some of the victims would be impossible to identify so that their families would have to be contacted in the second stage of the identification. The third stage of the identification would be conducted in the United States or some other location chosen by the US Army, Andjelinovic said. Also present at the press conference was US Army spokesman Col. Mark Brzozowski who said that the exact time of the transfer of mortal remains to the US would be made public later on Friday. Dubrovnik County prefect Jure Buric offered his condolences to the families of the victims. (hina) vm 052057 MET apr 96
