JAKARTA, March 26 (Hina) - Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic,
currently on a nine-day tour of southeastern Asia, on Tuesday
officially opened the Croatian Embassy in Jakarta.
Croatian Ambassador to Jakarta Zeljko Kirincic, who had handed
his credentials to Indonesian President Suharto in January this
year, would also represent Croatia in other ASEAN nations except
Malaysia.
"The opening of the Embassy to Jakarta is important becasue we
want to be present in Indonesia because of its great political and
economic significance," Kirincic said at the opening ceremony.
"We want to return to the area where we were already present"
as part of the former Yugoslav federation, he added.
The ceremony was attended by the Secretary General of the
Indonesian Foreign Ministry, Abdul Irsan, who took the opportunity
to announce the opening of the Indonesian Embassy to Zagreb in the
near future.
Also present were the crew of the Croatian "Sveti Vlaho" ship
which happened to be in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Earlier on Tuesday, Granic had met Indonesian Parliament
speaker Wahon.
