INFORMATI $ ON ON MISSING PERSONS ZAGREB, March 22 (Hina) - Croatia expects Belgrade to be exposed to more pressure from international organizations to uncover information about persons who went missing and were detained during the aggression against Croatia, deputy Prime Minister Ivica Kostovic said in Zagreb on Friday, after talks with an International Committee of the Red Cross (ICTY) U.S. special envoy in charge of missing persons issues, Marc Steinberg. #L# The U.S. government was anxious to see the problem resolved, and was doing everything in its power, in line with the Dayton peace accords, to speed up the identification process of missing persons, Steinberg said, adding that during talks with Kostovic he had been informed of many new details. "I will return soon and talk to mothers and other members of families of missing persons," Steinberg said, describing the step as one of the most important in resolving the problem. The fact that Steinberg was based in Sarajevo should not hinder his help to Croatia, because he could cooperate with Belgrade from there just as well and could directly contribute to the liberation of 10 Croatian detainees held by Bosnian Serbs, Kostovic said. "We expect those detainees who we are certain to be alive, but detained, to be liberated within a month," Kostovic said. Kostovic announced that first information about victims buried in mass graves in the occupied Croatian Danubian area would be available in July. The Croatian government planned to complete the identification of victims buried in the mass graves in liberated areas by June, Kostovic added. (hina) lm jn 221743 MET mar 96
