A BRIEF LOOK AT CROATIAN PRESS ON MONDAY

ZAGREB, March 11 (Hina) - The Monday edition of the Zagreb-based daily VJESNIK runs a front-page story on the EU takeover of administration of Mostar's central district. The Vjesnik front page also includes a headline on the trial of eighteen men for espionage and an article on the seventh convention of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Vjesnik devotes its central two pages to the tourist trade and carries an interview with Andrija Randic, head of the Department for Protection of the Adriatic Sea at the State Directorate for Environmental Protection. The paper runs a story by its Belgrade correspondent on Serbian media reactions to a visit by the Serbian foreign minister to Zagreb scheduled for Monday. Vjesnik reports that Bosnian President Alija Izetbegovic, who is still in hospital because of a heart disorder, received Presidency member Ejup Ganic and Prime Minister Hasan Muratovic. The paper says that Bosnian Serbs are threatening to burn down the Serb-held Sarajevo suburb of Ilidza 48 hours before it reverts to Moslem-Croat Federation control. Another Zagreb daily, VECERNJI LIST, says on the front page that the government is selling 900,000 hectares of agricultural land. Vecernji List includes an interview with Assistant Foreign Minister Hido Biscevic under the headline "Western-Style Relations with Eastern Neighbours." The paper runs a report on Berlin's international tourism fair, saying that this year Croatia expects the largest number of foreign tourists from Germany. Both Vjesnik and Vecernji List run stories on the latest success of Croatian tennis player Goran Ivanisevic at a Rotterdam tournament. (hina) vm jn 111102 MET mar 96
