Foreign Minister, Mate Granic, to Sarajevo. #L#
After the talks in Sarajevo, Granic explained that the
agreements would bolster the Bosnia-Herzegovina Federation and
define Croatia's and Bosnia's relationship with European
integrations and third countries.
The talks focused on the structure of Mostar and canton
boundaries and the return of all refugees, including those from
Bugojno, Stolac, Travnik and Vares, Granic said.
The talks with the President of the Bosnian Presidency, Alija
Izetbegovic, also focused on the relationship between Croatia and
Bosnia and problems besetting that relationship, Granic said.
Granic expressed his regret that the Mayor of the eastern part
of Mostar, Safet Orucevic, had not been present at the talks.
"All sides expressed their willingness to work toward a
compromise in a spirit of cooperation," Granic said, adding that
details on Mostar had not been discussed. He also said that without
resolving the status of Mostar, a solution for the Federation could
not be found.
"We believe that an honest compromise will be reached," Granic
said.
The Bosnian Foreign Minister, Jadranko Prlic, stated that the
biggest stumbling blocks in the implementation of the Dayton peace
Accord were Mostar and canton boundaries according to maps from
Dayton.
"We also agreed that, with the help of Michael Steiner, the
president of the Federation and his deputy would try to find a
compromise between attitudes concerning the canton boundaries,"
Prlic said.
Prlic explained that Hans Koschnik had not been present during
talks in Sarajevo because he could not get a consent from the
European Union. He added that Orucevic's reasons for not coming to
the meeting were unknown.
On his arrival in Zagreb, Granic said that the Moslem side
supported the decision of EU Administrator of Mostar, Hans
Koschnik, but that cooperation with the Croatian side had been
established at the talks in Sarajevo.
Granic stressed that the problem of Mostar would be resolved
at the same speed as the problems in the rest of the Federation.
"It was agreed to accelerate the process of implementing the
Dayton Peace Accord in the whole of the Federation. This process
will involve full freedom of movement and religious and political
activities in Mostar and other parts of the Federation," Granic
stressed.
