Speaking about Croatia's economy on behalf of the HGK,
Branimir Lokin stressed that prices and rates had stable movement
in January. There were, however, no signs of larger shifts in the
production and economic activity, Lokin said.
Quoting the prognosis by the Union Bank of Switzerland saying
that Croatia's chances for economic growth were largest in 1996,
Premier Matesa said that the situation in the Croatian economy was
better than people thought of it. The industrial production in
January was 4,3% larger than in the same month last year, he said,
adding that Croatia's greatest problems were its banking system and
usurious interest rates.
The HGK President Nadan Vidosevic called on the Croatian
economists to visit Sarajevo at the end of February.
