After signing, Sapovaljanc stated that Croatia would continue
exporting ships for the Russian merchant marine and that
cooperation in power industry had been agreed upon. He added that
efforts would continue to be put into an agreement on support and
mutual protection of investments whose acceptance would ensure a
secure legal background for a successful cooperation in the future.
Stern stressed that the signing of the Protocol meant that the
economic cooperation with Russia would be resumed after a three-
year interlude. Russia was Croatia's fourth foreign partner,
inspite the pause, Stern said, adding that Croatia was importing a
large amount of oil and gas from Russia.
"We hope that the development of economic relations between
Croatia and Russia will influence inter-political relations which
have been greatly improving in the past period," Stern said.
