The Agreement between the Croatian and US Government, which
was signed last July, agreed upon the import of raw cooking oil
into Croatia at a long-term loan of $5 mil. Croatian Finance
Minister, Bozo Prka, said that by granting the loan, the United
States recognized Croatia' status as privileged partner in trade.
The objective of the Bill on bankruptcy was to sort out
Croatian economy and put an end to the failure of fulfilling
obligations, said the Croatian Justice Minister, Miroslav
Separovic.
The model for the Bill was found in a German act and some
provisions of the law were taken from American law, namely the
introduction of an institute for reorganizing insolvent debtors,
said Separovic, adding that the Bill anticipated that no bancruptcy
proceedings could be instituted against Croatia, its Budget and
bodies of local self-government.
The Parliament committees have mostly supported the Bill, but
warned that some provisions should be defined more clearly,
especially the institute for overdrawn subjects.
