The two premiers, Croatia's Zlatko Matesa and Slovakia's
Vladimir Meciar signed the agreements on the avoidance of double
taxation, mutual support and protection of investment, tourist
cooperation and air traffic.
The two premiers also agreed on the establishment of a joint
commission which, under the chairmanship of the Croatian and Slovak
economy ministers, would devise concrete cooperation programs.
At a press conference after the signing of the agreements, the
Slovak Premier Meciar also spoke about the political situation in
Croatia.
Slovakia had sent its soldiers within the U.N. forces to
eastern Slavonia and those soldiers would work there in accordance
with the Dayton agreement, Meciar said, adding that the Slovak
delegation had also visited Belgrade and talked with the Belgrade
authorities about the establishment of peace in the region.
The Croatian Premier thanked Slovakia for its consistent and
constructive support for Croatia's integrity and peaceful
reintegration of the Croatian Danubian area. He added that
Croatia's priority after signing the Dayton agreement was its
joining the European integration processes, including EFTA, the
European economic organisation, presided over by Premier Meciar.
