ZAGREB, Feb 11 (Hina) - The friendship between Slovakia and Croatia was well known in history and there were no open problems between the two countries, Slovakian Premier Vladimir Meciar told s press conference at Zagreb airport
today, at the beginning of his two-day official visit to Croatia.

The Slovak delegation, headed by Premier Meciar, was welcomed
by the Croatian Premier Zlatko Matesa.
'Slovakia and Croatia were part of the same state for a long
time and there has been nothing between the two peoples but
friendship and understanding since then', Premier Matesa said.
'I am convinced that Premier Meciar's visit will be successful
and that it would give incentives to our overall cooperation -
political, economic and cultural', he added.
'We come in times when it is necessary to support the peace
process. We are here also to discuss Croatia's reconstruction',
Meciar told reporters, adding that it was in Slovakia's interest to
strengthen and broaden its ties with Croatia.
The Slovakian Premier will have an extensive agenda on Monday.
He will first meet Croatian Premier Zlatko Matesa. The talks
between the two parliamentary delegations will also take place on
Monday.
Premier Meciar is then to lay a wreath at Homeland Altar in
Medvedgrad and sign in the Book of Memories. After the visit to
Medvedgrad, Meciar is to meet with Parliament Speaker Vlatko
Pavletic.
He is also to talk with the head of the Croatian Council of
the European Movement, Slaven Letica and his associates.
At the end of his visit to Croatia, the Slovak Premier will be
received by the Croatian President Franjo Tudjman.
