Minister Granic informed his guest about processes concerning
the settlement of the crisis in former Yugoslavia in the post-
Dayton period, stressing the importance of a speedy start of the
implementation of the Basic Agreement on Eastern Slavonia, in line
with provisions of the U.N. Security Council Resolution 1037.
Speaking about the implementation of the peace agreement in
Bosnia-Herzegovina, the Croatian Foreign Minister reiterated
Croatia's readiness to support the mediation of the EU
Administrator of Mostar Hans Koschnik in the process aimed at
finding a solution for the situation in the city. Croatia had put
some hundred policemen at Koschnik's disposal, Granic said.
Minister Malescanu commended Croatia's role in the processes
which helped bring about the solution to the crisis in the region.
Croatia and Rumania had developed very good political and economic
relations in the past period, Malescanu said, stressing Rumania's
interest in broader regional cooperation in the wider area of
Southeastern Europe.
Minister Granic agreed with Malescanu's proposal, stressing
the importance of developing relations in the field of economy and
security. Croatia did not want any kind of association between the
former Yugoslav republics which would in any way remind it of the
former state, Granic stressed.
Bilateral cooperation of the states that originated from
former Yugoslavia would develop gradually, especially after the
normalisation of relations between all successor states and in
those fields which proved to be of mutual interest, Granic said.
As far as any kind of regional association was concerned,
every state was free to join the association it liked, he added.
