ZAGREB, Jan 25 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman on
Thursday received Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Vacaroiu, the
Presidential Office said in a statement.
Tudjman said that today's visit strengthened traditionally
friendly relations between the two countries which contributed to
efforts aimed at ending the war and stabilizing relations in the
entire region.
"The greatest success of Croatian home policy is over 50
percent of privatized state ownership and the stable national
currency, the kuna, which is a precondition to a successful
economic development and good relations with international
financial institutions.
"As for the international position, we can say that it is firm
on both European and international levels since Croatia maintains
friendly relations with Germany, France and the United States,"
Tudjman said.
The President stressed that Croatia's top priority was the
implementation of the Washington and Dayton accords on the
establishment of the Croat-Moslem federation in Bosnia-Herzegovina
and the reintegration of the Danubian region into the
constitutional and legal system of the Republic of Croatia.
The process of normalizing relations with Serbia, which
guarantees the success of the peaceful reintegration, and the
stability of relations with all countries in South-Eastern Europe
would continue to have the support of the Croatian authorities.
But Tudjman stressed that Croatia would not agree to any kind
of new Yugoslav, Balkan, Adriatic or Eastern European unions.
Vacaroiu informed the Croatian President about his meetings
with senior government officials during his visit to Croatia,
expressing satisfaction with their results.
Vacaroiu relayed greetings from President Iliescu, expressing
Romania's willingness to assist Croatia in the reconstruction
process and in the implementation of the peace agreement.
The Romanian Prime Minister expressed confidence that the
establishment of peace and stability would bring the whole region
closer to the community of developed countries.
Both sides expressed a wish for the further promotion of
traditionally friendly relations which could be an example of
bilateral cooperation in the region.
The Romanian delegation included Ambassador to Croatia Vasile
Lece and other senior government officials.
The Croatian side was represented by Foreign Minister Mate
Granic, Economy Minister Davorin Stern, Presidential Economy
Adviser Marko Skreb, Head of the President's Cabinet Gordan Radin,
Ambassador to Romania Nikola Debelic, and the Head of the Foreign
Ministry's Department for Central and Eastern Europe, Aleksandar
Stipetic, the statement concluded.
