MOSTAR, Nov 24 (Hina) - All six municipal councils in Mostar were
established on Monday in line with the results of the September
local elections in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
In three Croat-dominated municipalities, candidates of the
Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia-Herzegovina (HDZ BiH party)
were elected presidents of the councils, and candidates of the
Coalition for an Integrated and Democratic Bosnia-Herzegovina, led
by the Moslem Party of Democratic Action (SDA), were elected vice
presidents.
In the other three municipalities, which have a Moslem majority,
candidates of the SDA-led coalition were elected council
presidents, while the vice presidents are the HDZ BiH candidates.
Monday's establishment of the six municipal councils fulfilled an
agreement signed by representatives of the Croat and Moslem
(Bosniak) people and officials of the OSCE and the regional office
of the High Representative last week.
Martin Garrod, the head of the regional office of the international
High Representative to Bosnia, said on Monday that it was necessary
to hold soon the founding session of the Mostar city council and
elect the mayor and the deputy mayor of this southern city.
