VUKOVAR, Nov 17 (Hina) - The head of the UN Transitional
Administration in the Danube river region of eastern Croatia,
William Walker, on Monday sent a message to all residents of the
region and to all citizens of Croatia on the occasion of November
18, the day when in 1991 Yugoslav army and rebel Serb forces entered
Vukovar after a three-month siege.
These days are filled with sad memories of many people: Croats and
Hungarians, Serbs and Slovaks, Ruthenians and Ukrainians, and all
others. We bow to the memory of all those who lost their lives in
that tragic conflict.
But now we are at the threshold of full peaceful reintegration. This
is the time to continue resolute steps towards a new future -
together and in peace.
This is not the time to forget - but it is the time to begin with the
process of forgiving and to continue along the path of a peaceful,
new life, said the message, released by the UNTAES Public Relations
Office.
