REHN SATISFIED WITH SITUATION OF RETURNEES TO KARLOVAC COUNTY

KARLOVAC/VOJNIC, Oct 20 (Hina) - UN special rapporteur for human rights Elizabeth Rehn on Monday visited Krnjak, Vojnic and Karlovac, 50 km south-west of Zagreb. Accompanied by Croatia's ombudsman Ante Klaric and representatives of the UNHCR, Rehn visited several displaced Croat families accommodated in Krnjak and Vojnic, and several Serb returnee families who came to this area from the Danube river region of eastern Croatia and Yugoslavia. Rehn talked to Serb returnee families about their situation, difficulties and security conditions. According to the returnees, security conditions were very good but, they said, their houses were occupied by Bosnian Croat war victims. The visit was very significant and positive, Rehn told reporters. She welcomed the establishment of a national committee on the restoration of trust, the accelerated return, and the security aspect of return to the Karlovac County. (hina) ha mm 201918 MET oct 97
