ZAGREB, Oct 12 (Hina) - The studies of Slovakian language and
literature was opened ceremonially at the Faculty of Philosophy
in Zagreb on Monday.
The newly-opened studies that last four years, are part of
the department of West Slavic languages.
At the opening ceremony, addressing the first generation of
Slovakian language students the faculty's dean, Stipe Botica,
said that it would be the 31st independent group of studies, and
announced the beginning of the studies of Ukrainian language for
Tuesday.
The West Slavic Languages Department's head, Davorka Sesar,
said that the Slovakian language and literature had been taught
at the college for four years within the Bohemian studies.
She expressed satisfaction with the opening the Slovakian
studies as an independent sub-department.
The cultural society of the Croatian Slovakians ('Matica
Slovacka') will donate 40 books to the library of the Slovakian
studies and deliver its monthly regularly.
