VUKOVAR, 9 Oct (Hina) - The local electronic media in the
Croatian Danube river region should be adjusted to Croatian
regulations by the end of the year, U.N. Transitional
Administration in Eastern Slavonia (UNTAES) public relations
office said in a statement Thursday. #L#
Asked to present proposals concerning the adjustment
process, the president of the committee for mass media of the
Joint Council of Municipalities (ZVO), Milan Trbojevic, stated on
Thursday that the Supervisory Committee, appointed by the ZVO for
all local Serb media in the area, had recently decided how to
reshape the local media in line with Croatian regulations.
The local TV stations in Vukovar and Beli Manastir will
function as one station with two studios. Spasoja Popovic was
appointed director and Zeljko Tosic editor-in-chief of Vukovar TV
station.
The current so-called Serb radio Vukovar will be separated
from the Vukovar Information Centre and organised as an
independent station. The radio's director is Radovan Martinovic
and Sanja Vukicevic its editor-in-chief.
The same will be done with the so-called Serb radio Beli
Manastir. Novak Vukcevic was appointed the radio's director and
Ratko Stevic editor-in-chief.
Miroslav Teofilovic will be the director and editor-in-
chief of Radio Mirkovci and Srdjana Nikolic will be the director
and editor-in-chief of Radio Borovo.
Speaking about the owners structure of the media, Trbojevic
said that 25% of every radio and TV station would be owned by the
ZVO, 25% by employees and the rest would be owned by some
municipalities in the area and private companies.
Trbojevic stressed that the adjective 'Serb' would most
probably be dropped from the names of the media.
The Alternative Information Net (AIM) has organised a 3,5-
month course for the journalists from the Danube river region.
The course, which is under way, is being held by reporters from
the Split weekly 'Feral Tribune', biweekly 'Bumerang' and City
Radio Osijek.
The course will last until 15 January and its aim is to
prepare journalists for professional and objective work after the
completion of the UNTAES mandate.
As of 13 October, TV Vukovar and TV Beli Manastir and the
so-called radio Beli Manastir will broadcast on new frequencies,
the UNTAES statement said, adding that the stations would not
change their programs for now.
