VUKOVAR, Oct 6 (Hina) - The Croatian government's programme for
trust restoration, an accelerated return and normalization of living
in war-ravaged parts of Croatia is an excellent step forward towards
a full implementation of the Erdut Agreement, UNTAES spokesman
Philip Arnold told Hina on Monday.
"The important point is that the Croatian government supports
the concept of tolerance and understanding on all sides", Arnold
said, adding trust restoration requires efforts on the part of the
Croatian government, as well as of the local Serb political
leadership in the Danube river region of eastern Croatia.
Asked about the programme's reflection on the termination of
the UNTAES mandate and Croatia's position in the international
community, the UNTAES spokesman recalled that the Security Council
had called on the Croatian government to make such a programme.
"UNTAES is very pleased to see the Croatian government
responding to the Security Council's call for such a programme of
tolerance and understanding", Arnold said, stressing the programme
works out the restoration of understanding in all principal fields
of living.
