PRESIDENT TUDJMAN ARRIVES IN STRASBOURG

STARSBOURG, 9 Oct (Hina) - A Croatian state delegation, headed by President Franjo Tudjman, arrived in Strasbourg Thursday night. The delegation is to attend the second summit of the Council of Europe, which is to take place on Friday and Saturday.
STARSBOURG, 9 Oct (Hina) - A Croatian state delegation, headed by President Franjo Tudjman, arrived in Strasbourg Thursday night. The delegation is to attend the second summit of the Council of Europe, which is to take place on Friday and Saturday. #L# During the summit, President Tudjman is to have several bilateral meetings with the highest officials from several European countries and the Council of Europe. It is expected that the President will address the participants of the summit early on Saturday. The Croatian delegation includes Foreign Minister Mate Granic, Presidential Chief-Of-Staff Hrvoje Sarinic, Parliament Vice President and the head of the Croatian parliamentary delegation in the Council of Europe, Zarko Domljan, Croatia's Ambassador in the European Union, Janko Vraniczany-Dobrinovic, Croatia's Ambassador with the Council of Europe, Vladimir Matek, Ambassador to Paris, Smiljan Simac, presidential advisor on foreign policy, Neven Madey and the head of the President's cabinet, Gordan Radin. The second summit of the Council of Europe will be opened on Friday by the French President Jacques Chirac, Council of Europe's Secretary General Daniel Tarschys and the President of the Parliamentary Assembly, Leni Fischer. On the first day of the summit, the participants will be addressed by the German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, Britain's Premier Tony Blair and the Russian President Boris Yeltsin. The summit will bring together heads of state and government of the Council of Europe's 40 member states as well as the leaders of countries with special guest status - Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Georgia - and heads of countries with observer status - Canada, Japan and the United States, as well as the representatives of the Holy See, Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the European Union. The summit is aimed at supporting the further strengthening of democratic security and stability in Europe. With that aim, all heads of countries and governments should adopt a final statement and a plan of action, which include the issues of human rights, pluralist democracy, social cohesion, general security of citizens ad development of democratic values.
