VUKOVAR, Aug 7 (Hina) - All vehicles in the Danube region of eastern
Croatia must as of today have license plates and drivers must have vehicle
documents in order, in line with an order of the UN transitional administrator
for the Danube region, Jacques Klein.
Compliance with the order checked by the UNTAES Transitional
Police. If a vehicle is without a license plate, the driver will pay a 100 kuna
fine. If a driver is without a driving license, he will be fined with 500 +
kunas,
and if he cannot prove he owns the vehicle, it will be taken away from him.
Even though license plates in the Croatian Danube region can be
obtained since 4 June, drivers in the region have been allowed to drive with
illicit ones.
As of next month all vehicles in the Danube region will have to carry
Croatian license plates.
Only a very small number of vehicles bearing Croatian license plates
can be seen in the Croatian Danube region at the moment, and these are
mostly cars coming from other parts of the country. There is a large number
of vehicles with no license plates at all.
