Granic informed the Slovak delegation about the measures the
Croatian government is taking with the aim of peacefully reintegrating
the Croatian Danube river region. Croatia believed that the Security
Council would set 15 October as the date of the exit of the UNTAES
military component from the region and 15 January 1998 as the date of
the completion of the restructured UNTAES mandate, Granic said.
Croatia would continue to fully support the implementation of the
Dayton and Washington peace accords with the aim of further
strengthening the peace process in Bosnia-Herzegovina, he added.
The strategic interests of Croatia, which is a Central European and
Mediterranean country, are the establishment of stability in the region,
its integration in Central European and Euro-Atlantic economic,
political and security associations, as well as the development of good
neighbourly relations with all countries with which it shares the same
political and economic interests, Granic said.
Granic informed the Slovak parliamentarians about Croatia's
political and economic stability, stressing that Croatia was interested
in welcoming as many Slovak tourists as possible.
The two sides agreed that there were no open questions between the
two friendly states and that they had the same strategic goals.
There were great possibilities for further development of overall
cooperation, which would be improved by the signing of an agreement on a
free trade zone, the two sides said.
