TWO FRENCH FELONS SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS IN JAIL IN BOSNIA

SARAJEVO, July 16 (Hina) - Two French citizens have been sentenced to twenty years' imprisonment for felony and robbery in Zenica, central Bosnia. The higher court of Zenica, chaired by Judge Mladen Veseljak, on Wednesday pronounced prison sentences of Lionel Dumond and Maloud Bugelan who were found guilty of felonies committed in central Bosnia in 1996 and 1997 in which two people were killed. The court did not accept a request of the Defence that sentences be lighter because of Dumond's and Bugelan's one-year service in the Bosnian army. The two were arrested in a operation conducted by special police in Zenica three months ago when the third member of their gang was killed. France has asked that the two be extradited but Zenica's court has not yet rendered a decision on the matter. It has been announced that the discussion on the extradition of Dumond and Bugelan to France will be considered later. Paris has demanded that the two should be handed over as they are suspected of participating in terrorist actions committed in France. (hina) mš 162136 MET jul 97
