ZAGREB, July 8 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman received a
delegation of the Society of Alkars of Sinj on Tuesday, the President's
Office said in a statement.
The Alkar Duke, Major-General Mirko Norac, informed the President
about preparations for the 282nd jousting tournament, known as alka,
which will take place in Sinj on August 10 under his patronage.
The Mayor of Sinj and President of the Society, Mijo Jukic, asked
the President to accept the title of Honorary Alkar Duke, as the founder
of the independent Croatian state.
Tudjman accepted this proposal with pleasure. The proposal was put
forward by the Society of Alkars, the Association of Disabled War
Veterans and residents of Sinj.
The meeting accepted a proposal that an honorary alka tournament be
held in Vukovar.
Also attending were Presidential Chief of Staff Hrvoje Sarinic,
Domestic Policy Adviser Ivic Pasalic and the Commander of the First
Croatian Guard Corps, Major General Mile Cuk.
The delegation of the Alkars Society included the Guardian of the
Shrine of Our Lady of Sinj, Eugen Poljak, Society Vice President Dinko
Bosnjak, and President of the Alkars Court of Honour Andrija Filipovic
Grcic, the statement concluded.
