OSCE CANCELS REGISTRATION OF VOTERS IN BRCKO

PALE, June 11 (Hina) - The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe on Wednesday cancelled the registration of voters in Brcko for an impending Bosnia-Herzegovina municipal election, OSCE's spokesman in BH David Foley told reporters, adding that the registration was invalid and would most probably be repeated in full. This decision was reached after numerous instances of frauds and use of forged documents for voter registration in Brcko, a town in Republika Srpska, whose fate is to be decided by international arbitration, had been reported to OSCE supervisors. The decision to cancel the registration procedure was reached yesterday by the head of OSCE's mission in BH, Robert Frowick, and the supervisor for Brcko, William Farrand. According to Foley, there existed evidence that potential voters in Brcko had been registering on the basis of dubious documents. Some persons' documents bore addresses of completely destroyed and uninhabited villages, he said, adding that one person who tried to register, later admitted to arriving to Brcko for the first time from Belgrade, whereas others had not been able to even describe the house they allegedly lived in. According to OSCE's data, between 14,000 and 15,000 persons had registered for voting in Brcko until yesterday. (hina) ha mm 111350 MET jun 97
