Gelbard met with the President of the Federation of Bosnia and
Herzegovina Vladimir Soljic in Sarajevo on Saturday. The talks focused
on the situation in Mostar and the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton.
"Gelbard rather sharply presented the stand of the United States
and European countries towards the current stalemate in the Federation
and he did not spare anyone," Soljic told reporters after the meeting.
The U.S. diplomat conveyed the U.S. administration's request for
immediate solution of the problem, Soljic said.
According to Soljic, during the discussion on the situation in the
Federation, Gelbard stated that the international community might leave
the area because the parties were not ready to solve the current
problems by themselves.
Soljic said he had demanded from Gelbard to explain why pressure
was being exerted on the Croat side in the Federation. Gelbard answered
that the agreement on Mostar was a project the United States absolutely
supported, adding that it would not end with Mostar.
"Once the problem of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton is solved, the
solution of problems in the Central Bosnia Canton will start. Mostar can
be the first but it will surely not be the last town where the
Federation project will be implemented. The implementation of that
project will either be accelerated or it will take a course no one will
be able to control or predict," Soljic said.
During today's talks in Sarajevo, Gelbard confirmed that the would
visit Mostar on Monday.
