ZAGREB, 25 June (Hina) - A memorial plaque commemorating two dates - 30
May 1990 and 25 June 1991 - was unveiled in the Croatian Parliament
building in Zagreb on Wednesday.
On 30 May 1990, after the first multi-party elections, the
democratic Croatian Parliament was founded. On 25 June 1991, Parliament
adopted a historic Declaration of the establishment of the sovereign and
independent Republic of Croatia.
At the request of the international community, the implementation
of the Declaration was postponed for 8 October 1991 when Parliament
decided to sever all state and legal ties with the Socialist Federal
Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY).
The plaque, made of black marble, also bears lines on freedom by
the famous Croatian poet Ivan Gundulic.
The plaque was unveiled by Parliament President Vlatko Pavletic.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by parliamentary representatives and
other political and public figures.
Wednesday's presentation of the monograph 'The Croatian Language in
the Croatian Parliament' marked the 150th anniversary of introduction of
the Croatian language in Parliament. The monograph's authors are
Academician Vlatko Pavletic, Academician Milan Mogus and Dr Niksa
Stancic.
The 100-page monograph presents the most important dates in the
history of the Croatian Parliament and people, as well as the stages of
introduction of the Croatian language in Parliament and University.
The monograph, which was written in Croatian and English, also
brings numerous photos and documents.
