CROATIAN PRESIDENT RECEIVES UN UNDER-SECRETARY FOR PEACE OPERATION S

S ZAGREB, June 4 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman on Wednesday received UN's under-secretary for peace operations Bernard Miyet, the Croatian President's Office said in a statement. Miyet informed President Tudjman about his visit to the Croatian Danube region, pointing out that Tudjman's visit to Beli Manastir was accepted very favourably at UN and the international community. The success of UNTAES' mandate would be a good sign for the solution of the problem in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Miyet said. The Croatian President expressed satisfaction with the achieved level of understanding between the Croatian government and the elected representatives of local Serbs in the Croatian Danube region. With the establishment of local authority, in line with election results, the introduction of Croatia's currency, the kuna, the Croatian judiciary and public enterprise in the Croatian Danube region, conditions for a successful termination of UNTAES' mandate had been created, President Tudjman said, adding that this would have a positive influence on the normalization of relations between Croatia and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, as well as on the solution of the problem in BH. Alongside President Tudjman, present at today's meeting were the President's chief-of-staff, Hrvoje Sarinic, the President's advisor for foreign affairs, Zeljko Matic, and the President's deputy chief-of- staff, Vesna Skare-Ozbolt.
