ZAGREB, Dec 16 (Hina) - The Croatian Association of Returnees on
Wednesday called for the immediate cessation of harassment of
displaced people accommodated in three Zagreb hotels.
The 534 displaced persons, accommodated in the three hotels, are
being deprived of food, electricity and hot water, the
Association's president Mato Simic told a press conference in
Zagreb.
Simic called for the cancellation of the Croatian Government's
decision of May 4 this year, adopted on the basis of the Programme of
Accommodation of Displaced People and Refugees.
According to that decision, the Finance and Tourism Ministries were
to provide adequate accommodation for those displaced people who
still cannot return to their homes, as well as to pay for their
accommodation costs.
The hotel "Park", owned by the City of Zagreb, is soon to be
transformed into a nursing home. The other two hotels,
"International" and "Panorama", are part of a hotel and restaurant
group run by Andjelko Leko.
