ZAGREB, Dec 2 (Hina) - The economic agreement between Croatia and
the Holy See would regulate the issue of return of Church property
confiscated during the communist rule in Croatia.
The agreement envisages return in kind according to Croatian laws,
substitution, or financial compensation for property that is not
possible to give back.
By concluding a discussion on a bill that would ratify the agreement
and on several other bills, the Croatian Sabor's House of
Representatives ended the first day of its session on Wednesday.
Croatian Vice-Premier Jure Radic explained that, according to the
agreement with the Vatican, a joint commission comprising members
of the Croatian Government and Croatian Bishops' Conference
should, within six months after the agreement comes into effect,
prepare a list of properties to be returned to the Church, with a
mention of due date.
Heads of opposition party benches noted during the discussion that
the agreement left too many issues unresolved, which would have to
be agreed on subsequently.
The Lower House also concluded a discussion on a bill on the
implementation of the state budget.
Representatives discussed amendments to the Law on Internal
Affairs and the Law on Stimulation and Compensations in
Agriculture.
