Garder, in the capacity of NATO's high ranking Ambassador,
delivered a political message from NATO which expressed a deep
concern about the recent development of events in Kosovo, to the
head of Kosovo Albanians, Ibrahim Rugova, the Kosovo Information
Centre reported on Saturday.
During his talks with Gardner, Rugova said the Kosovo situation
remained extremely difficult as a consequence of the Serbian
forces' attacks, as well as because of their presence in large
numbers in that Yugoslav province.
He asserted that the arrival of the Organisation for Security and
Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) mission to Kosovo, would have a
significant effect on calming the situation in the province.
The head of the Kosovo Albanians also held talks with the French
Ambassador to Macedonia, Jacques Huntziner and a special envoy of
the French Foreign Minister, Huber Vedrin, who expressed interest
in the possibility of negotiations between Pristina and Belgrade.
Rugova stressed that the Albanian side is pro serious and well-
prepared dialogue, with international mediation.
According to Albanian sources, the situation in Kosovo remained
tense. The Kosovo Information Centre reported on Saturday that the
Serbian forces opened fire near a bauxite mine, by Klina. So far, no
reports have been made about the consequences of the incident.
The Kosovo Democratic Alliance reported that Prjelepe, a village
near Decani, where two Serbian police officers were killed and four
wounded, was surrounded by Serbian forces who abused several
residents. Several Albanians were taken into custody, hovewer,
following OSCE's intervention, they were released.
