ZAGREB, Oct 8 (Hina) - The National Defence and Security Council
(VONS) met in Zagreb on Thursday to discuss the recent visit by Pope
John Paul II as well as NATO threats to the Federal Republic of
Yugoslavia.
The session was chaired by Croatian President Franjo Tudjman.
VONS examined organisational and security implementation measures
during the Pope's visit to Croatia and complimented the Interior
Ministry and all those involved in ensuring that the visit passed in
the best order, considering the complexity of the project and the
threats received, the President's Office said in a statement.
Discussions were also held with regard to threats of air strikes on
Yugoslavia issued by NATO, requiring additional security measures
and supervision of national borders, the same source noted.
