FINNISH PRESIDENT MEETS NEW BOSNIAN PRESIDENCY MEMBERS

( Editorial: --> 4046 ) SARAJEVO, Sept 29 (Hina) - Newly elected members of Bosnia- Herzegovina's collective Presidency on Tuesday held separate talks in Sarajevo with visiting Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari. After the talks behind closed doors, the office of Bosnian Presidency Chairman Alija Izetbegovic issued a statement on his meeting with Ahtisaari. The statement said the main topics of the talks were the current situation in the region and perspectives on the implementation of the Dayton Accords following the general election in Bosnia. According to the statement, Izetbegovic assessed that the election for the territory of the Bosnian Serb entity had given a contradictory result, because people of different political stances had been elected as the Bosnian Presidency's Serb member and the president of the Bosnian Serb republic. He told Finland's President Ahtisaari that in the future the Bosniak (Muslim) side would support the democratic forces in the Bosnian Serb entity. Ahtisaari also held talks at the headquarters of the United Nations Mission to BH with mission head Elizabeth Rehn. Later he talked with the Bosnian Presidency's Croat member Ante Jelavic and then with the Serb member Zivko Radisic. Following his meeting with the Finnish President, Jelavic told reporters they focused on the return of refugees and the full implementation of Annexe VII of the Dayton Peace Accords. Asked what he expected from the new Bosnian Presidency, of which he will be a member for the next four years, Jelavic said he believed this body would work better than it had up to now.
